International Pickleball line-up heading to Oberpullendorf for the Base X Pickleball Austrian Open

From 26 to 28 June 2026, the Pickleball Federation Austria will host the Base X Pickleball Austrian Open at Sporthotel Kurz in Oberpullendorf. For the first time, the PFA will stage the International Pickleball Championships of Austria. The tournament will bring top European players, US pros and numerous divisions for amateurs and seniors to Burgenland.

Austria’s pickleball scene can look forward to a special highlight: With the Base X Pickleball Austrian Open, the Pickleball Federation Austria will host an international prize money tournament in Austria for the first time from 26 to 28 June 2026. The tournament will take place at Sporthotel Kurz in Oberpullendorf. In addition to the pro divisions, there will be numerous categories for amateurs and seniors – offering both top-level pickleball and divisions for the wider pickleball community.

The field will be led by two well-known names in Austrian pickleball: European Champion Stephen Preissler and Prycen Haas will team up in men’s doubles for the first time since their victory in the European Championship final. For both of them, the tournament is also something very special on a personal level.

“I am really excited to return to Europe and compete in several tournaments. I think it is great to see how pickleball has developed in Austria and that we can now host our first international open tournament. I am ready for the Austrian Open!”
Stephen Preissler

Prycen Haas is also looking forward to the tournament in Oberpullendorf with great anticipation:

“I am incredibly excited to come back to Austria and compete in the first international pickleball tournament hosted by the Pickleball Federation Austria. In men’s doubles, I will be playing again with my European Champion partner Stephen, and in mixed doubles with my wife Jamie. It is especially nice that my family will be there as well – I am looking forward to playing in front of the home crowd and seeing the Austrian pickleball community.”

The field is also strong beyond the Austrian contenders. From Europe, Bálint Bakó and Krisztián Kaszoni from Hungary as well as Viktória Kanichová from Slovakia have announced their participation. Several US pros will also add international flair: William Sobek, who has already been ranked among the top 5 in the APP rankings, as well as Jamie Haas, who has already been ranked among the top 20 in the PPA women’s rankings.

For the Pickleball Federation Austria, the Austrian Open marks an important next step in the development of the sport in Austria.

“We are delighted that, with the Base X Austrian Open, we as the Pickleball Federation Austria can host an international tournament for the first time. On the one hand, we will see top-level pickleball; on the other hand, thanks to the many categories, there is a suitable division for everyone. It is definitely worth stopping by! A big thank you goes to our partners and supporters, above all our main sponsor Base X and Sporthotel Kurz, who believe in our sport and have placed enormous trust in us.”
Peter Robic, PFA President and organiser

A large field of participants is expected – also thanks to cooperations with the Hungarian and Czech pickleball federations. This means that the Base X Pickleball Austrian Open will not only be a top-level sporting event, but also an international gathering of the growing European pickleball community.

The event is also supported by Sportland Burgenland. With participants from Austria and abroad, as well as many players from the surrounding region, the tournament is also expected to provide a significant boost for tourism in the area.

To provide optimal tournament conditions, a dedicated Centre Court will be built on the grounds of Sporthotel Kurz. It will be implemented by the company Dellacher and will remain at the venue after the tournament, where it will continue to be available for play. In addition, main sponsor Base X will present its own pickleball showcourt and showcase its pickleball court solutions, which can be installed on a wide range of surfaces.

“We are especially pleased to welcome an international pickleball tournament to our venue alongside the Austrian Tennis Championships. For several days, Oberpullendorf will become a true centre of racket sports. Pickleball is developing extremely dynamically – and we are proud to actively support this development.”
Günter Kurz, Sporthotel Kurz

The event will also receive media coverage: The final day will be broadcast by Streamster on TV and via stream. This will give the Base X Pickleball Austrian Open a platform beyond the venue itself and make pickleball accessible to a wider audience.

For the players, the tournament will be a true pickleball celebration: All divisions will feature round-robin matches followed by final rounds. All participants will receive an extensive welcome package with numerous goodies, and the first 50 entries will also receive a free tournament shirt. A Players Dinner will also take place on Friday evening.

Another highlight is a pickleball clinic with Jamie and Prycen Haas. During this training session, interested players will have the opportunity to step onto the court with two international top players and receive valuable tips.

Registration for the Base X Pickleball Austrian Open is via the RAQT App, available in the App Store and on Google Play. Further information about the tournament is available here.

Admission for spectators is free on all days.
