With the BMWKMS-funded project She Plays Pickleball, the Pickleball Federation Austria aims to inspire even more women to take up pickleball and make it as easy as possible for them to get started.
The focus is on free playing and training opportunities for women. At the same time, one thing is very important to us: pickleball should be a sport for everyone. Our offers are therefore generally open to people regardless of age, gender or sporting experience.
Pickleball is easy to learn, easy on the joints and combines physical activity with a strong social aspect. This combination makes the sport particularly attractive for people who want to become more active again or try something new.
Regular Sessions at Europahalle
Together with our partner club SPORTUNION Rackathletes Austria, we already offer a regular session with a coach at Europahalle in Vienna.
Every Tuesday from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m., women can play pickleball free of charge and get to know the sport. The offer will initially run until Christmas 2026.
Registration is possible via the WhatsApp group or directly with She Plays Pickleball Event Coordinator Marcel Weigl at +43 664 4012575.
New Session at Sport Arena Wien
Another focus is currently being developed at Sport Arena Wien.
There, SPORTUNION Rackathletes Austria offers pickleball sessions with coach on Wednesdays between 2:00 and 4:30 p.m. The official kick-off will take place on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
We invite everyone who is interested to come along, get to know the project and discover pickleball. It is the perfect opportunity to try the sport yourself and meet players as well as members of the project team.
Kick-off “She Plays Pickleball at Sport Arena Wien”
Wednesday, October 7, 2026
2:00-4:30 p.m.
Sport Arena Wien
Participation is free of charge.
The event is also a great opportunity for groups, clubs or senior citizens’ clubs to discover pickleball in an informal setting.
More Offers Across Austria
“She Plays Pickleball” is not intended to be limited to Vienna. During the summer, regular outdoor sessions with a coach were also held as part of the project together with ASVÖ Racketsport Vösendorf.
Further offers are planned to start with partner clubs before the end of 2026. In Bregenz, we are working with Pickleball Vorarlberg on a regular session, while in Ostermiething a new offer is being developed together with SPORTUNION Ostermiething – Pickleball Section – both with certified coaches.
Another opportunity is also planned in Burgenland: at Sporthotel Kurz in Oberpullendorf, a free playing opportunity for women will be created later this year on the centre court of the Pickleball Austrian Open.
Step by step, the network of locations where women can try pickleball free of charge and play regularly is continuing to grow.
Try Pickleball – No Previous Experience Required
You do not need any previous racket sports experience to get started. Paddles, balls and nets can be provided at the project sessions.
The aim is simple: give it a try, play together and find out whether pickleball is the right sport for you.
A relaxed and welcoming atmosphere without performance pressure is especially important to us. Anyone looking for exercise, a chance to meet new people or simply a new sport to try is welcome.
