From May 16 to 18, 2025, an important milestone in the development of Pickleball in Austria was reached: The first Pickleball Instructor Special Module, organized by the Pickleball Federation Austria (PFA), took place — a significant step in the young history of the sport in our country.
A total of 14 dedicated participants took part, including two members of the PFA board: President Peter Robic and Sports Director Ashley Simpson did not miss the opportunity to join the course themselves. Many participants traveled long distances from various Austrian provinces to be part of this pioneering educational initiative.
Strong performances and great motivation
Course instructor Stefan Grubmüller — 2024 Austrian Pickleball Champion, certified tennis coach, graduate of Sports Science at the University of Vienna, and one of the key figures in Austria’s Pickleball scene — was highly impressed by the group’s performance and enthusiasm:
“You could really feel that everyone was participating with heart and passion. That’s exactly the energy we need to keep growing Pickleball in Austria.”
Peter Robic also emphasized the importance of the course for the sport’s development:
“I’m proud that we, as a federation, were able to take this step. Qualified instructors are crucial for the quality and growth of our sport — at all levels.”
Certificate ceremony at the Austrian Championships
A special highlight still awaits the participants: The official certificate ceremony will take place during the Austrian Championships 2025, held on July 5–6, 2025 in Oberpullendorf. A fitting occasion to honor the achievements and commitment of the first graduates in front of a broader audience.
A key step for the future
With the successful completion of this first Pickleball Instructor Special Module, the PFA has laid a strong foundation for the structured development of the sport in Austria. The newly trained instructors will now contribute to spreading Pickleball in their respective regions and inspire new players to join this exciting sport.
