On April 4th, 2025, the very first public pickleball courts in Austria officially opened in the beautiful Donaupark in Vienna’s Donaustadt district. Just behind the popular tennis courts and close to the iconic Donauturm, the Pickleball Federation Austria – with support from district leader Ernst Nevrivy and the Vienna City Gardens Department – successfully installed dedicated pickleball courts.
The nets are made of durable wire mesh, the ground isn’t perfectly level – but none of that takes away from the fun. Three courts are currently available for everyone to use free of charge, and the final plan includes five courts in total!
Donaupark – The Perfect Location
District leader Ernst Nevrivy was clearly excited at the opening:
“Pickleball is a fantastic sport – fast, fun, and great for all ages. I’m thrilled we’re now bringing pickleball to life here – in Vienna, in Austria – starting from Donaustadt. That’s something special!”
PFA President Peter Robic also has a personal connection to the park:
“I spent every free minute of my youth on the tennis courts here in Donaupark. When I discovered pickleball a few years ago, I immediately thought: this would be the perfect location for public courts. Now, pickleball is accessible to everyone – and that makes me incredibly proud!”
