People from across Vienna and the surrounding area followed the PFA’s invitation on 23 February to Das Packhaus in Vienna’s 3rd district (Landstraße) and learned more about “She Plays Pickleball” — a project designed to make it easier for women aged 50+ to get started with pickleball. The project aims to establish regular playing opportunities across Austria, encourage more women to take on board roles in pickleball, and train new female pickleball coaches.
Guests tested the “Kitchen Court”
Representatives from several seniors’ clubs as well as coordinators employed by the City of Vienna attended the kickoff. For many guests, it was their first time trying pickleball: everyone picked up a paddle and experienced first-hand just how much fun the sport is. The set-up “Kitchen Court” encouraged spontaneous participation — in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, people chatted, laughed, and most importantly played together.

Project coordinator Peter Robic answered questions and motivated everyone to get active right away. Maureen Tan and Alex Rieck from the PFA board were also on site and available for questions. National team player Helmut Hübsch taught the fundamentals and shared practical tips for beginners. Peter Robic said: “We’re truly delighted that, thanks to the support of the Ministry of Sport, we can deliver She Plays Pickleball — a project that is especially close to our hearts as a federation. Three out of five PFA board members are women — two of them are 50+ themselves. We want to specifically reach this important target group and get them excited about pickleball.”
Try it for free at PFA tournaments
At all PFA events in 2026, we plan to offer free taster sessions. The first opportunity will be at the Rackathletes Pickleball Cup, where you can play for free on Sunday, 8 March, from 10:00 to 12:00 at the Ballsportgymnasium Wien (Erdbergerstraße 186–190, 1030 Vienna).
